What is TechHire Borderplex?
Workforce Solutions Borderplex garnered widespread community support to launch an initiative to grow the local Information Technology industry. This effort initially gained recognition for El Paso as a “TechHire Community” by the White House under the Obama Administration. As a TechHire community, WSB receives technical assistance by the national Opportunity At Work non-profit organization to grow the Borderplex’s regional IT sector. It also affirms WSB’s commitment to produce top talent for the Borderplex’s IT industry by providing grant-funded training opportunities and forming strategic partnerships that will expand IT educational programs in our region.
The LIFT program is a 5-certification CompTIA cybersecurity program that trains 30 veterans for a career in the high paying cybersecurity field. The program launched in September 2017 and the first cohort of 15 graduated in November 2017. The second cohort of 15 is expected to begin their training in January 2018. They will compete their entire 5-certification course by March 2018. This program is funded by the Wells Fargo Foundation Neighborhood Lift Program and the Texas Industry Partnership grant.
Reboot El Paso!
The Reboot El Paso! initiative is a program to train youth ages 16-24 for careers in IT. The students will receive training for CompTIA certifications in Introduction to IT and A+. The program will begin in December 2017 and wlll be completed in December 2018. This program is funded by the Texas Wagner Peyser 7(b) grant.
