El Paso, Texas – July 24, 2017 – Workforce Solutions Borderplex, the non-profit organization dedicated to employment, education and economic development, announced the appointment of Mr. Dan Dunlap to the Board of Directors.
“As our newest addition to the Board, Mr. Dunlap will do an outstanding job representing the private sector,” said Joyce Wilson, CEO of Workforce Solutions Borderplex. “His career experience in the military and as an elected official, along with his years of commitment to a successful family business, makes him an asset to our organization.”
Mr. Dunlap is a native Texan, born and raised in Amarillo, and a graduate of Texas A&M University where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While assigned to Strategic Air Command, 2nd Bomb Wing of the U.S. Air Force, he served as an intelligence officer at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana; Anderson Air Force Base, Guam; and in Southeast Asia at Nakom Phanom Air Force Base, Thailand. After returning from overseas and moving to Air Defense Command, Research and Development, Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, he became test director for unmanned remotely controlled aircraft, a precursor of our present-day UAVs. Mr. Dunlap also earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management from Texas A&M and was then assigned to a managerial position at the 4950th Training Wing Aircraft Modification Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. In 1980 he was assigned to the Pentagon where he developed and maintained the Air Force Research and Development budget database. Mr. Dunlap left active duty in 1982, but he continued serving in the Reserves at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, and with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, until his retirement in 1993 as Lieutenant Colonel. Since 2000, Mr. Dunlap and his wife have owned Christophers Home Furnishings in Marfa, Texas. He served five terms as Mayor of Marfa and also served as the Municipal Judge for the City of Marfa. Mr. Dunlap has served, or is serving on, the Board of Directors of the Marfa Chamber of Commerce, Saint Mary’s Catholic Church Advisory Board, City of Marfa Parks and Recreation Development Corporation, the Board of Directors of Southwest Texas Municipal Gas Corporation, the Rio Grande Council of Governments Financial Committee, the Rio Grande Council of Governments Solid Waste Advisory Committee, the Texas Municipal League Small Cities Advisory Committee, the Foundation for the Dioceses of El Paso Finance Committee, and the Big Bend Natural History Association.
