El Paso, Texas – June 18, 2015 – El Paso’s workforce has seen an influx of youth on the job this summer, thanks to the El Paso Summer Youth Employment Program, led by a consortium of partners consisting of Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB), the City of El Paso, the County of El Paso, El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce. The partners made the announcement collectively in April to identify and fund summer jobs for youth ages 16-24 within the borderplex.
After an overwhelming response to pre-registration this spring, WSB steadily hit their goals for youth employment matching. Over the course of the summer months, the program will help over 200 youth gain meaningful work experience. An additional 58 youth with disabilities participating in the WSB Breaking Barriers initiative will also benefit from the summer work program.
“We encouraged businesses to join the program and sponsor a youth for the summer,” said Joyce Wilson, CEO of WSB. “By providing first time job experience to young people now, we will have an eligible pool of workforce ready adults when they can work full-time or complete their education.”
This year WSB has helped by paying half the wages for businesses to employ additional youth. They serve as the employer of record, pay the youth directly, and cover the payroll taxes, along with bonding youth, if required.
WSB would like to recognize all the employers participating in the Summer Youth Program.
