El Paso, Texas – May 19, 2016 – Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB), the non-profit organization dedicated to employment, education and economic development, launched this year’s Summer Work Internship Program today.  WSB has committed to 200 sponsorships for summer internships for “Borderplex Certified” people between the ages of 16-24.  Through a matching system with public and private entities, interns are placed into jobs that correlate with their specific skill sets, interests, and abilities.

“We are thrilled to offer the summer youth program once again,” said Joyce Wilson, CEO of Workforce Solutions Borderplex.  “Our growing list of business sponsorships has made this possible and we are proud to provide ‘Borderplex Certified’ youth to the workforce.  This is a call to action to local employers to participate and hire our youth.”

“Borderplex Certified” youth have a strong understanding of what it takes to navigate workplace environments and can comprehend industry and career opportunities.  Workforce Solutions Borderplex and its partner sponsors see the added benefit of the “Borderplex Certified” participants in the Summer Work Internship Program which allows the young interns to explore careers in depth during a minimum period of six weeks of paid work.

HOW CAN EMPLOYERS HELP?

  • Complete an Employer Internship Sponsorship form.
  • Contribute to the initiative by directly hiring a youth.
  • Participate in this year’s Reverse Job Fair (June 8, 2016) and meet youth who are ready to work.
  • Sponsor an intern to help give work experience that aligns career pathways through a sponsorship package.  Commitments range from 120, 240 and 320 hours of work and pricing varies per package.

WHAT IS THE PROGRAM VALUE?

Employers will receive a contribution acknowledgement form from WSB, a 501(c) 3 organization.

WSB is the employer of record, which means they will cover worker’s compensation and fringe benefits and issue bi-weekly pay-checks.

Employers will invest and develop long-term employment opportunities for El Paso’s future workforce.
