May 15, 2017 - INDUSTRY FAIR OFFERS 150 JOBS

Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB), along with over 40 employers in the fields of Construction, Transportation and Advanced Logistics, is hosting a job fair this Wednesday, May 17 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Lower Valley Career Center. 

May 4, 2017 - Partners Launch Summer Jobs Programs

Today, Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB), along with partners from the Borderplex Alliance, El Paso County, the City of El Paso, the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, launched three youth employment initiatives for 2017; Hire El Paso Youth Summer Work Program, Summer Earn & Learn, and The Texas Internship Challenge.

April 12, 2017 - STEAM Fiesta Winners Announced

The 2017 STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) Fiesta which is coordinated annually by Workforce Solutions Borderplex and the STEAM Fiesta Committee commenced with an awards ceremony on Friday, April 7th.  This was the culmination of efforts that impacted regional middle school students  along with high school competitors. 

April 11, 2017 - Ribbon-Cutting for New Job Center in Horizon City

Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB) and Goodwill Industries of El Paso have partnered to open a fourth Job Link Site in Horizon City at 13998 Horizon, Suite 110-120, Horizon City, Texas 79928. This Friday, April 14, WSB and Goodwill Industries of El Paso, along with Joshua Carter, District Director on behalf of State Representative Gonzalez, and the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new job link site.

April 4, 2017 - Annual STEAM Fiesta Week is Here

he 2017 STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) Fiesta which is coordinated annually by Workforce Solutions Borderplex and the STEAM Fiesta Committee starts this week.  The multidimensional, two-day event for middle and high school students in the Borderplex Region was designed to increase student awareness of career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math disciplines.

April 3, 2017 - Math Adds Up For Area Schools

Two years ago, the Prudential Foundation announced a commitment of $870,000 to help build a next-generation workforce in El Paso. Since then, Prudential's investment has impacted two programs: the Prudential Math Challenge Competition created for high school students and MATHCOUNTS targeted at middle schoolers.

December 12, 2016 - STEAM 2017 COMPETITIONS ANNOUNCED

Workforce Solutions Borderplex has officially announced its annual STEAM event which will be held April 6-7, 2017.  With that, the organization has opened registration to area high schoolers for seven competitions.

October 11, 2016 - WORKFORCE BOARD ANNOUNCES BOARD UPDATES APPOINTS NEW MEMBERS AND REAPPOINTS THREE

On October 4, 2016 the three Texas Workforce Commissioners, Andres Alcantar, Chairman and Commissioner representing the public, Ruth R. Hughs, Commissioner representing employers and Juan Alvarez, Commissioner representing labor approved the appointment of three new board members.  They are Satish Bhaskar, Lourdes Madera Tirado and Ruben Torres.  Also approved were the reappointments of three board members; Robert Alcala, Leo A. Duran Sr., and Grace D. Munoz.

October 10, 2016 - WSB CELEBRATES HireAbility MONTH

During the month of October, Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB) and its partners at the Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities will promote employment opportunities for Texans who possess significant knowledge and skills and also have a disability. 

October 6, 2016 - WORKFORCE WINS NATIONAL GRANT FROM KELLOGG FOUNDATION

Innovate+Educate (I+E) and the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) announced that Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB) is one of three winners of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) Two-Gen Grant.   The funding will support WSB’s initiative to advance new pathways to employment for parents and families with young children (0-8 years) while providing linkages between early childhood development and employment that will lead to economic advancement.

October 5, 2016 - WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT WEEK

Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB), in conjunction with the U. S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) and Workforce Development Council (WDC), is participating in Workforce Development Week, a national awareness campaign from October 3-7, 2016.  This is an effort to promote the efforts of Workforce Development Boards across the country.

September 23, 2016 - YouthBuild El Paso Awarded Funding by DOL

Workforce Solutions Borderplex was notified by the Department of Labor that its application for the "YouthBuild El Paso!" initiative was selected for funding. El Paso was chosen out of hundreds of applications nationwide. 

September 15, 2016 - WORKFORCE HOSTS INDUSTRY JOB FAIR

Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB), in conjunction with local employers, will host its third quarterly Industry Job Fair next Wednesday, September 21st from 9am to 2pm at the El Paso Airport Marriott located at 1600 Airway Blvd.  Jobs with immediate openings will be offered in the fields of manufacturing, production, retail and healthcare.  To date there are 70 employers registered to participate, offering over 500 jobs.

September 12, 2016 - Local Workforce Women Go National

Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB) is proud to announce that local service providers and partners, Heather Leach and Terri Leisten, were recently elected as At-Large Members to the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP). 

August 24, 2016 - Ribbon-Cutting for New Job Center in West El Paso

Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB) and Goodwill Industries of El Paso, have partnered to open a third Job Link Site in far West El Paso at The Paseo Del Norte Plaza 6351 South Desert, El Paso, Texas 79932. This Friday, August 26, WSB, Goodwill Industries of El Paso, along with State Representative Joe Moody and the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new job link site.

Workforce Solutions Borderplex, the Far West Adult Education Consortium, and El Paso Community College are launching a program that will jump-start individuals who have been out of school and/or been looking for new career with a $1,000 scholarship for a professional certification.

June 2, 2016 - LOCAL EMPLOYERS TO PARTICIPATE IN FIRST ANNUAL REVERSE JOB FAIR LOCAL EMPLOYERS TO PARTICIPATE IN FIRST ANNUAL REVERSE JOB FAIR

Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB), in conjunction with local employers and youth, will host El Paso’s first annual Reverse Job Fair. 

The Reverse Job Fair is different from the traditional job fair model. “Borderplex Certified” youth set up booths to display their portfolios, skills and talents to employers who are looking to staff up this summer. Employers will have direct access to engage with and interview 80 youth who are ready for new summer work experiences and internship opportunities.

Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB), the non-profit organization dedicated to employment, education and economic development, launched this year’s Summer Work Internship Program today.  WSB has committed to 200 sponsorships for summer internships for “Borderplex Certified” people between the ages of 16-24.  Through a matching system with public and private entities, interns are placed into jobs that correlate with their specific skill sets, interests, and abilities.

April 21, 2016 - Workforce Solutions Borderplex Announces New Board Member

El Paso, Texas April 21, 2016 Workforce Solutions Borderplex, the non-profit organization dedicated to employment, education and economic development, announced the appointment of Mr. Frank Spencer III to the Board of Directors.

“Mr. Spencer will represent the private sector and will make a great addition to the Board,” said Joyce Wilson, CEO of Workforce Solutions Borderplex. “His work experience as a successful construction contractor will greatly benefit our organization.”

Annual STEM+Art Fiesta Kicks Off Next Week

The 2016 STEM+Art Fiesta which is coordinated annually by Workforce Solutions Borderplex and the STEM+Art Fiesta Committee kicks off next week.  The multidimensional, two-day event for middle and high school students in the Borderplex Region was designed to increase student awareness of career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Art disciplines.  This year there are seven STEM and Art high school competitions in addition to workshop rotations for middle schoolers.  The media is invited to cover all the STEM+Art Fiesta activities.

 

March 24, 2016 - Big Changes at Workforce Solutions Borderplex

New Contracts; Enhanced Services & Customer Focus

(El Paso, Texas - March 24, 2016) Beginning Monday, April 4, 2016, new service providers will take over operations of career centers and other programs of Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB). The Career Centers at Northeast (9740 Dyer St.) and Northloop ( 8825 N. Loop, Ste 122) will be closed on Friday, April 1, to allow for a full transition of responsibilities. Effective April 4, most WSB Centers will open at 8:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, the Fort Bliss Center and the Fabens Center locations will operate on a 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. schedule.  The change in operational hours will maximize staff availability and decrease customer wait times while expanding new service delivery tools. 

March 10, 2016 - Workforce Solutions Borderplex Kicks Off 2016 Hiring Events Next Week

El Paso, Texas – March 10, 2016 – Workforce Solutions Borderplex will host its first Industry Job Fair of 2016 next Thursday, March 17th from 9:00am to 2:00pm at the Marriott Hotel at 1600 Airway Boulevard.  To date, over 30 companies have committed to the hiring event with close to 175 jobs in the Construction, Transportation, and Warehousing sectors.    

February 4, 2016 - STEM+Art Fiesta Introduces Architecture Competition

EL PASO, TX (February 4, 2016) The 2016 STEM+Art Fiesta Committee is pleased to announce “Living on Mars”, which is the newest addition to the competition lineup.  The Texas Tech School of Architecture is sponsoring the competition which invites students to design a house for three astronauts who are sent to Mars to cohabitate while working together in the same space.  Student entries must include an airtight living space which includes a laboratory geared for experiments as well as living and entertainment areas.  Successful entries will address areas for socializing and sports activities.

January 13, 2016 -- (El Paso, Texas) Prudential Financial announced a commitment of an $870,000 grant to help build a next-generation workforce in El Paso.   Prudential's investment will focus on creating programs to help El Pasoans build deep skill sets in math, information technology, and business.
